Fear the Dark

Fear the Dark is a 6x6 cluster-pays slot from Hacksaw Gaming built around cascades, the Full Moon mechanic and a free-spin feature where the playable grid can change as darkness closes in. Its horror theme is more than visual: several of the game’s key mechanics are tied to the Moon Man, symbol multipliers, candles and the shrinking Darkness Spins grid.

How Fear the Dark works

Winning clusters disappear and new symbols fall into the empty positions, creating the possibility of consecutive wins from the same paid spin. The game does not use traditional fixed paylines; wins are formed through matching symbol clusters on the 6x6 grid.

Full Moon and symbol multipliers

The Moon Man scatter activates Full Moon mode. During this sequence, multipliers can become linked to symbols and qualifying symbols can be removed from the grid, allowing another cascade to take place. This gives Fear the Dark its main progression mechanic: cascades can interact with accumulated multiplier values rather than each win being treated as an isolated event.

Darkness Spins and candles

Darkness Spins are Fear the Dark’s free-spin style feature. The distinctive part of the bonus is that darkness can close in and reduce the playable area. Candle symbols work against that pressure: they can push the darkness back and may award additional spins. The result is a bonus round in which maintaining or recovering grid space becomes part of the feature rather than the game simply providing a fixed number of ordinary free spins.

RTP, volatility and maximum win

Fear the Dark has a highest commonly published RTP configuration of 96.25%. Hacksaw games can be supplied in alternative RTP configurations, so the figure shown in the game information or paytable should be checked when playing with a real-money operator. BestCasinoSA lists the game as medium volatility and the maximum advertised win is 5,000x the stake. A maximum-win figure is a theoretical cap, not an expected return.
